Plumbing questions answered, Malibu, CA

Plumbing FAQs

Real answers to what people ask us on the phone, from pricing to septic to permits.

How do you price a job?

I come look first. Then I tell you the price before any work starts, and you decide. If something new shows up once we open a wall or pull a fixture, I stop and talk to you before doing more. You never get a surprise bill at the end.

What if I have a plumbing emergency?

Call (310) 359-0140 right away. If water is spraying, shut off your main valve first. I'll tell you honestly how soon I can get there. If I can't make it in time, I'll tell you that too, so you can call someone who can.

Do you work on septic systems?

We fix the plumbing in the house and the drain line out to the tank. Lots of Malibu and Topanga homes are on septic, so we see it all the time. Pumping the tank and official septic inspections are separate jobs, and I'll tell you if that's what you need.

Do I need a permit for my plumbing job?

Some jobs do, like a new water heater, a repipe or gas line work. Who issues it depends on where you live: City of Malibu, LADBS in Pacific Palisades, or LA County in Topanga. I'll tell you before we start if your job needs one.

Can you fix or replace my water heater?

Yes, tank and tankless. Sometimes it's just a part, like the thermostat or the anode rod, a metal stick inside the tank that soaks up rust. Sometimes it's time for a new one. Either way, California law says it has to be strapped for earthquakes.

Do you install reverse osmosis water filters?

Yes. An RO system sits under your kitchen sink and pushes water through a very fine filter for cleaner drinking water. It has its own little faucet. I'll show you how to change the filters so you're not stuck calling me for that.

What areas do you serve?

Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Topanga. We also take jobs in Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village when we can fit them in. Call (310) 359-0140 with your address to check.

How do I book a visit?

Call or text (310) 359-0140. Tell me what's going on and send a photo if you can. We'll pick a time that works for you. You'll talk to me, Sergio, not a call center.

What should I do before you get there?

If something is leaking, turn off the water at the shutoff valve under the sink or toilet, or at the main. Move stuff out from under the sink. Put the pets away. Then wait for me and don't stress about the mess. We bring drop cloths.

What if the fix doesn't hold?

Then we come back and make it right. That's Sergio's Done-Right Guarantee. Call me, tell me what's going on, and I'll come take a look.

Still Got a Question?

Call Sergio and ask. If it's a quick fix you can do yourself, he'll tell you.
